BAKUGAN BUZZ

Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a Japanese anime television series that centers on the lives of creatures called the Bakugan and the battle brawlers who possess them. It is a show filled with action and adventure, and it has spawned a hugely successful trading card game and many collectibles for the fans and the kids to collect and play with.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers is produced by TMS Entertainment and Japan Vistec, with the direction of Mitsuo Hashimoto (who was also the director for the famous Dragon Ball anime series). The series debuted in Japan in 2007. With its success, Nelvana Limited produced an English language version and aired the series on the Canadian network Teletoon later that same year. The English series has 52 episodes compared to the Japanese version's 51 episodes. Cartoon Network also jumped into the series' success and began airing Bakugan Battle Brawlers in the United States. Further success of the show spawned a trading card game and miniature figures and collectibles, by Sega Toys and Spin Master.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers focuses on six main characters --- Dan, Shun, Runo, Marucho, Julie, and Alice --- all of whom are exceptional Bakugan battle brawlers. As the series moves along, more characters are introduced, some friends while some are foes. The Bakugan warriors also have their share of the limelight, most especially Drago, the Pyrus Dragonoid that main character Dan possesses and fights with. Along the series, friendships are made, bonds are forged, rivalries become fiercer, and the battles become more challenging!

Bakugan Battle Brawlers is only the first season of the Bakugan anime series. The second season of the show is titled Bakugan: New Vestroia, where our Bakugan heroes travel to New Vestroia to help the Bakugans with their plight. A third season is in the works, and is scheduled to come out in 2010. It will be called Bakugan Battle Brawlers: Gundalian Invaders. What adventures await our heroes?

The Main Cast of Brawlers

Daniel 'Dan' Kuso: Dan is the leader of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers. He's a thirteen year old boy who is more street smart and is always looking for adventure. Dan wears his emotions on his sleeve. He is quick to react in situations and at the same time, quick to temper. Dan's life revolves around Bakugan, with his greatest ambition to become the number one ranked Bakugan player in the world. He is the master of the power play and uses fire attributes in battle.

Runo Misaki: She's a tomboy through and through. As a twelve year old, Runo isn't your typical pre-teen girl. She loves playing Bakugan with the boys! Runo can be a sore loser and her battling can be inconsistent. She sometimes gets in the way of her team members. Runo has a crush on Dan (although she wouldn't admit it) an d is jealous of Julie. In battle she uses light attributes.
Guardian Bakugan: Haos Tigrerra -- Blade Tigrerra

Marucho Marukuro: For a twelve year old, Marucho is wise beyond his years. Studious, he studies the strategy of Bakugan as well as being a bit of a walking encyclopedia. Marucho is the only son of a millionaire. In the Bakugan battles, Marucho devises strategy based on in-depth characters analysis but sometimes misjudges his spur-of-the-moment decisions based only on characters. As a sidekick to Dan, Marucho helps work out which Bakugan would be best to pit against one's opponent. He worries about all of the Brawlers, but especially Dan. Marucho is a master of combination play, and uses water attributes in battle.
Guardian Bakugan: Aquos Preyas -- Angelo Preyas / Diablo Preyas

Julie Makimoto: She may come off as a bit scattered, but Julie can compete with the best of them at Bakugan. Julie would best be described as a little princess and in conversation she can be a little vacant. She's bubbly, extroverted and adores Dan! She is his number one fan. Julie lives in the isolated Bakugan Valley. She is a master of direct attacks and uses Earth attributes in battle.
Guardian Bakugan: Subterra Gorem -- Hammer Gorem

Shun Kazami: The strong silent type. Along with Dan, Shun co-created the rules and regulations of Bakugan and is a master of the game. Shun is a loner, a boy of very few words, yet is willing to help his friends at every turn. He approaches the game like a Ninja warrior, very calculating. Shun uses the wind attributes in battle.
Guardian Bakugan: Ventus Skyress -- Storm Skyress

Alice Gehavich: Alice is 14 years old and the grandchild of Michael/Hal-G. Alice does not battle, but advises the other Brawlers - her battle knowledge is so high that even Marucho is impressed! Unaware that she has a split personality - her other personality is the evil Masquerade!

The Forces of Evil

Masquerade: Masquerade is a very mysterious character who has one goal; send to all Bakugan to the Doom Dimension. A great Bakugan player and Dan's main rival, he wears a mask and no one knows his true identity. In battle Masquerade is so dangerous because he carries the doom car, allowing him to send the losing Bakugan to the Doom Dimension. He has teamed up with Hal-G and together, their quest is to ensure the dark side wins by drawing in all the negative energy making Naga the supreme ruler in both Vestroia and Earth! He is a master of the darkness attribute.

Hal-G: After teleporting himself to the other dimension, the researcher Michael was quickly sucked up by the evil force of the Silent Core and transformed into a megalomaniac scientist. After returning to earth as HAL-G, he immediately recruited Masquerade in an attempt to help him destroy all the Bakugan standing in his way.

Minions Turned Heroes

Klaus von Hertzon: Klaus is heir to a wealthy family and lives in a castle. His wealth and skills have helped him achieve a high world ranking and only Shun and Masquerade outrank him. His guardian Bakugan is Sirenoid. Sirenoid is from Aquos or the Water World. Klaus later becomes one of Masquerade's best henchmen and challenges Dan and the other Battle Brawlers.

Billy Gilbert: Billy is one of Julie's childhood friends that also shares her interest in Bakugan from the Subterra world. He is also ranked tenth in the world among other brawlers making him one of the masters. Unlike Julie, Billy is under Masquerade's control and has teamed up with Komba to send the Battle Brawlers to the Doom Dimension.

Chan Lee: Chan is one of the expert brawlers who is controlled by Masquerade. She is ranked #3 in the world and her guardian Bakugan is Pyrus Fortress.

Komba O'Charlie: Komba is from Nairobi in Africa and he is more than willing to travel for a good battle. He is ranked fifth in the world thanks to his guardian Bakugan Harpus. Harpus is from Ventus, the wind world. Masquerade takes control of Komba and his friends and forces them to challenge the Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

Julio Santana: Julio is ranked number four among the Bakugan brawlers in the world. Julio also likes to exercise his strength on and off the field. His Bakugan of choice is Tentaclear from the Haos and it has one large eye and six tentacles.

Other Significant Characters

Michael Gehavich: Michael, an elderly researcher in his fifties was the first to discover a portal between an alternate universe known as Vestroia and our world.

Christopher: Christopher is a young boy who was on a losing streak and was going to quit Bakugan. Alice found him after he was defeated again and again by his rival Travis. She taught him strategies and boosted his confidence, and he ended up winning against Travis. Christopher is an Aquos brawler, and is a big fan of Klaus.

JJ Dolls: The JJ Dolls is an idol group consisting of Jenny and Jewls, who love to brawl when not on the spotlight. They were brainwashed by Masquerade for a time and proved to be a challenge for Marucho and Dan. Dan and Marucho are both fans of them. The JJ Dolls also helped in the final battle against Hal-G and Naga.

Jewl's Bakugan: Subterra Centipoid, Subterra Stinglash, and Subterra Saurus

Nene, Akira, and Shuji: These three are siblings, who have the habit of crossing paths with the brawlers for petty fights. Nene is the smallest, but she was the one who taught her brothers how to brawl and she is the best of them three. She thinks she is the best brawler in the world. Akira usually just watches when Shuji brawls, but he did help his siblings in a battle (which they lost) against Dan and Runo. Shuji is a bully, and likes to pick on Dan. He keeps on losing to Dan, however, and keeps on changing Attributes.
