No he doesn't the card states that “you may use the highlghted bonus instead” However if it was the card Lightwind Color Shift then it would be added onto the previous bonus

Good strategy but it won't work in a real brawl since you get you're Bakugam back when you have nothing left to throw. Unless you had already won 3 gate cards and I just missed it.
