Wouldn't water destroy the metal in the bakugan?

I used it on a bakugan that is really common, neo dragonoid. I have like 4 or so. I did this to test if it worked before testing it on my alto brontes, which I'm going to customize to like like Gus/Volts.

The method worked, but left my bakugan smelling like sunblock. I had a felling it wounld happen, but is there any way to remove the smell? I used coppertone, by the way.
