At my school we have to have a book at our reading level, from the library, on us at all times and we don't even have to read it. So basicly we're carrying around a book for no reason and if we lose it we have to pay for it. Wonderful.

My school does the same thing, they just want us to have some sort of reading material with us at all times.

I always do have reading material with me, it's the “on your level, library, book you don't have to read that irritates me.”

To my mind, the stupid thing is not requiring you to read it. I mean, what's the point otherwise? Increase reading skills by osmosis? The sad thing, though, is that many kids would never, ever read a book if they weren't required to.

      Indeed

Then they fail later in life, that's their problem. But I get your point

The point of it at my school is just to give you something to do if you have nothing to do. But of course it's a fail reason. Like Xavier and Ed, no ones gonna do that.

It's their way to tell you that the book your carrying with you isn't important at all, along with anyother book you ever touch that's not a textbook. They just want you to know that what happends in school is more important then the book that you have with you.

Considering all the many thousands of books that have been written, I'm sure there is, somewhere, a book you would like. You just haven't found it yet.

the stupid thing here is that we have reading lists, and the top reader last year kept reading stupid tin tin comics and he read them like over and over so he had like 100+ on his overall list..and here i am reading actual GOOD books and i get told off.. so i always have to read a picture book or two to boost my numbers... DX

That IS stupid. At the VERY least, they should only let you count the same book once. Measuring page counts would be a good idea, too, though if they are allowing comics, that would skew the numbers anyway.
