Also, the start of battle is when two Bakugan stand on an unflipped Gate. Traps are played when the gate is flipped. When the gate is flipped, the "During a battle" phase begins.
Thats new to me, because I received complaints when I used ventus, before a gate like "stand off" or "quick charge" was activated, oh well, I already PM'ed LD, and I have back up if this isn't legal.
Spin Master posted a clarification on the game FAQ for this but it needs to be clarified further.01: When is the start of a battle? Is it before the Gate Card is flipped over, or after? The "start of a battle" is when two opposing Bakugan stand on a Gate Card. The Card is flipped over THEN brawlers can use their Ability cards. It does answer the questions when the start of the battle BUT it does indicate that only after the card is flipped over is WHEN you can play ability cards. This is confusing because if you go back to the rulebook it will say somewhere :(Each Ability card indicates when it can be played - before, during and after a battle) So if you follow the rules then playing it before the gate card is flipped is also legal, similar to playing ability cards like "Play before you roll", "play after you roll" or "play at the start or beginning of the game". If the they wrote the Ventus card this way then it would be more clearer "Play at the start of the battle, after the gate card is revealed and where you have Ventus Bakugan" then this clearly states it can only be played after the gate card is flipped. This is a clear example where a ruling has to be cleared up and officially posted by Spin master.
