Rock that Rolls! While it might not be the most elegant weapon, sometimes, nothing beats rock. Subterra is all about big G-Power, straightforward, stomping attacks that have your opponent wondering how it was that all of his clever tricks weren't enough to win the game. Subterra has the biggest G-Power Bakugan in the game and no fear of using them. It is no wonder that Julie, who prefers direct attacks, is a Subterra master. Success comes to the Subterra player by taking a no-holds-barred approach to monster G-power and battles that end quickly. The Subterra Bakugan Subterra Bakugan come in lots of flavors, for game play though, most are just as good as others. Unlike most attributes though, a lot of Subterra's power comes directly from their Bakugan, which feature higher G-Powers than the other attributes. If you're going to play an all Subterra force, you might want to pick one middle G-Power Bakugan, but when I play Subterra, I use the biggest three G-Power Bakugan I have. This usually means that I will sometimes lose one battle from an opponent's clever trick, but hopefully, I'll win the rest! The Gate Cards Usually for Silver Gate cards, I recommend looking for a card that not only gives a great bonus for your attribute, but one that also doesn't give too high a bonus for anyone else. With Subterra though, there are other good choices. Sometimes an opponent might have a wacky trick that allows them to get a different gate bonus than they would normally get, or worse yet, a trick that makes your Bakugan take one of the lower bonuses. To defend against those types of tricks, I sometimes like to include cards like High Energy . Cards like High Energy that give roughly the same bonus to every attribute, really limit the effectiveness of some of your opponent's tricks. For your Gold Gate card, you can go a couple of different ways. You can include a copy of a card that matches the type of one or more of your Bakugan. The best of these cards is the one that matches Julie's favorite Bakugan, Gorem . If you've got a really High G-Power Gorem Bakugan, this card can mean victory without any drama at all as it just ends the battle right after it starts as long as your Bakugan has a printed G-Power of at least 150 G-Power more than your opponent. No trick can save your opponent from this combo. You could go the other way with your Gold Gate card and play with three different types of Bakugan and then play with Teamwork . Not only is the bonus from this card good for Subterra, but if your opponent is playing 3 of the same type of Bakugan (like 3 Dragonoids or something), you'll get a real big advantage. Forest Fire is also good, but can bite you back if your opponent happens to be playing Pyrus, Darkus, or Subterra. For your Copper Gate card, you want to keep the battles as straight forward as possible. A card like Stand Off is great as it doesn't let your opponent play Ability cards (although it doesn't give you a very big bonus). A better version of that same effect is Quick Charge , which only stops the player with the lowest printed G-Power from playing Ability Cards. Pounce is a good choice as well, as it will stop your opponent from getting the Gate's G-Power attribute bonus if he's got another Bakugan of the same attribute in his Used Pile. The Ability Cards Just because Subterra is all about being big and stompy, it doesn't mean that you don't have your fair share of surprises! Most of your tricks are really meant to counter your opponent's tricks so that the battle will come down to straight G-Power. For your Red Ability card, there are some good choices for you. Julie's Throw might not seem obvious, but it is highly likely that your opponent will have one really big G-Power Bakugan (one close enough to yours to scare you). Julie's Throw helps you avoid fighting that Bakugan and sets up more favorable matches for you. Rikimaro's Surprise is my personal favorite Red Ability card for Subterra. It helps you completely avoid the bad effects of your opponent's tricky Gate cards. If your opponent is playing one of those "Lowers G-Power Wins" cards, Rikamaro's Surprise should equal victory for you. Stuck is a similar card that stops your opponent from getting big bonuses from Ability cards. For your Blue Ability card, I generally go for a generically useful G-Power boost. Home Advantage is a good idea, as is Mega Impact . It's a little risky, but I also really like Predictable Opponent . This card gives a big 110 G-Power bonus, but it only works if your opponent has a Bakugan in his Used pile that is the same attribute as the one he has in the battle. I find most people like to play with Bakugan of the same attribute, so I can usually use this card when I want to. For your Green Ability card, Subterra is a good choice as it essentially stops an opponent from winning a battle if they don't win by a large margin, which is unlikely due to the high G-Power Bakugan you will be playing with. Surprisingly, I really like to play with Copy Cat as well. It doesn't work every game, but it's fun to see the look on your opponent's face when he thinks he's going to easily win a Lowest G-Power Bakugan wins Gate card and you swap G-Powers with him Most of the playtesters like Subterra 2 as their Green Ability card. This card's use isn't too obvious, but what it allows you to do is to get an extra one of your Gate cards out into the field. This is almost always good for you as you have picked Gate cards that work well with your Bakugan so you are at a big advantage when fighting on your own Gate cards. More than once, this card has meant the difference between victory and defeat for a Subterra player. Subterra is fun to play, particularly when you've got your cards all worked out. It doesn't require nearly as much finesse as the other attributes either, so it's a little more forgiving if you make a mistake in the game. When I play Subterra I rarely win the first all of the first three battles, it is almost always a pretty close game. I can't stop all of my opponent's crazy tricks, but if I can stop one or two, it's usually enough to win. The only attributes I tend to have problems beating are Ventus, as they move everything all over the place, and Haos with it's big come-from-behind effects. If you're introducing a friend to Bakugan, I would suggest you have them play Subterra as it is the most straightforward attribute.
