I know the wording on Bakugan cards is somewhat tricky.I wish I could have made this a better topic right off the bat because I've had a lot of questions and clarifications in the past, but for right now lets start off with one question, as I'm having a total brain fart about anything else.When a card states "Play at the start of a battle..." What exactly does this mean? Is the start of the battle considered before or after the gate card is flipped over and it's "secrets" revealed? Just this one minor thing could have a serious effect on strategy and the outcome of a battle.

I agree and i actual think these are more of a “timing” issue actually. Going back to the gameplay advantages of swaps or translucents as an example from the dvd. It shows the choice with the card already flipped over but doesnt officially say it like it does with the pearls. The rules also state that for clears if both bakugan are clear they choose an attribute at “the start of a battle before the card is flipped over”. Not sure if these are one in the same or 2 seperate details.My thoughts are that pearls and translucents would hold the same gameplay value though, so if one clearly stated you get to choose which ever helps you the most then i would imagine the other would be the same.If we could ever get spinmaster to answer their inquiries things like this could be easily resolved. I suggest posting on the official forums and asking for lord darkus or someone to reply

These issues give me giant headaches.And it's not like I haven't tried to get them to answer on the official forums before ( though now I refused to go there). I don't trust them anyway... I don't want to talk to know-nothings that have been wrong in the past like the community admins on the official site.

That is one of the things i was trying to accomplish with the community rep that contacted me, having a direct line of communication to get answers for things like this. And i agree on the gate bonuses, but i dont think it really affects gameplay as you already know what its going to be so you can play cards if you need to.

got some answers, check the “official rulings” sectionAnd after thinking about it, i believe the gate bonus is added last to allow for some strategic ability card playing that could alter the bonus you get ( attribute change card or something )

Well duh I know that. You'd add the att you change to. That doesn't stop the fact that I'm completely math inept and I like to calculate my bonus before hand and then change it if I have to later. -__-;

but if you actually added it after the card was flipped, changing attributes with an ability card would not change the gate bonus because it was already added ( as the old attribute )<--- getting confused LOL

No no… I understand why the gate bonus is added last, for att changing purposes.. I'm just being nitpicky and am saying I'm retarded and need to factor the gate bonus INTO my card playing.

Oh and it's funny you mention the DVD… because on that they DO seem to add the gate Bonus first… Lawlz, they must be as stupid as I am.

following timing and from what i gather ( im getting it clarified – hopefully ) when battle starts ( gate card flipped ) the dual then chooses an attribute to become. So once timing allows ability cards to be played, the dual would just be considered the attribute it chose.

Err... not what I meant.I mean if the Dual Att Bakugan is NOT the one standing rather if it is sitting in your used or unused pile. These cards call on you to count the number of attributes or colors you are using "in the game".If a Dual counts as both, you coulds technically be playing 5 different attributes in a single 3 Bakugan game.
