Abilities like bright torch-clarification

I couldn't find any other topics that answered this, but if there was I'm sorry.
Ability cards like bright torch, and solar winds, lets you take the highlighted bonus instead of your regular attribute bonus from a gate card.  When you use cards like these, do you take on the highlighted attribute, or do you stay your attribute but gain the bonus?
I'm confused and need an opinion on this.

Okay, that's what I thought.  I kinda leaned towards that because if it changed your attribute, the card wouldn't work for you anymore.

1 Zeox is correct, your attribute does not change BUT

2 If it was to change your attribute it would still apply, according to the rulebook after you play a card it goes to your used pile IMMEDIATELY, so even if you play a card for Haos and then change to Aquos it doesn't matter, as the card is in your used pile and cannot be DQ'ed as it was already played when you were Haos and then removed from the battle. Just sayin'.
