I didn't see you guys post this but, the Gears have their own Attributes, Gold, Silver and Copper. Not only can you activate the Ability on their reference card because you are of the correct Attribute. BUT! You can also activate it if the Gear Attribute is the same as the Gate color. Such as a Gold Gear on a Gold Gate, it would allow you to choose and use any of the 2 Abilities that the reference card has. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I wondered about this too ! I think you are correct about this TRICKY gear ability.

wut about  the cards do those count as a seperate color  or  wut  cuz  i hav one of em  and waant  to beet  my friends with  it

The Battle Gear cards are called reference cards and they are not played like regular Ability or gate cards. They are used as "reference" for the Battle gears when you use their abilities.

Let say you use or play a Battle gear and its Gear Symbol (Matches) the gate card you that you played it. According to the rulebook, if the battle gear symbol matches the gatecard then you can use any of the abilities on the card regardless of the attribute shown on the reference card. So If I played Twin destructor on a copper gate card and lets say I have a haos bakugan then I can then choose to use the Pyrus ability of the reference card for my Haos Bakugan.  The battle gear will also give the G-Power bonus aside from the additional effect.

If the battle gear you played matches the attribute symbol on the reference card then you may use that ability too. So if you have a Pyrus bakugan and you played a twin destructor then you can use the Pyrus ability on the reference card.
