Some color mods plus SAFE COLOR STRIPPING METHOD!
« on: January 01, 2010, 11:46:45 PM »
Okay, taking my first foray into customizing Bakugan here. Customizing itself isn't new to me, as I've done Zoids for years, but I'm amazed it took me this long to make this discovery.

First, a Bronze Hades given the purple and red highlights of a regular Hades. I felt the bronze treatment made it a bit dull so I spiced it up a bit.

And now, a show-accurate Wavern made from a Haos Wavern.

Notice anything interesting like, perhaps, the toenails have no paint on them?! That's right! I found a way of stripping off the paint from Bakugan! Not only is it safe to use, but it also leaves the G-power, attribute symbol, and serial number alone.

What's my secret? You'll never guess... Okay...

Sunblock.

Ordinary sunblock! The oils in the sunblock somehow remove the paint from bakugan! If you take a basic washcloth, saturate it with sunblock and use it to vigorously buff the bakugan, it can take off the painted highlights!

Yes, it even strips off Bakucore treatment! Wanna make a regular Alto Brontes without the bakucore splotches everywhere? Now you can!

For example, here's a stripped Alpha Percival. Note the intact Pyrus symbol:

I figured this out from the internets and it really works! Ya learn somethin' new every day, I guess.

So, whatcha think?

So all the paint will come off? But the Symbol and the G-powers won't come off.

That is brilliant. I would have never thought that something as random as sunblock could be such a powerful Bakugan customizing tool. Thank you for sharing this info with everyone.

Squirt some sunblock onto a little washcloth, mush the sunblock around in the cloth until it saturates it like it was a damp cloth, then use it to buff your bakugan.

So all the paint will come off? But the Symbol and the G-powers won't come off.
Right. The G-power, symbol, and serial number are stamped on with an ink that (In most cases) comes off with Isopropyl alcohol rather than oil-based cleaners. The paint used on bakugan comes off with oil-based cleaners but NOT with Isopropyl alcohol. They're different paints.

That is brilliant. I would have never thought that something as random as sunblock could be such a powerful Bakugan customizing tool. Thank you for sharing this info with everyone.

Well, I added a little melaleuca oil (A proprietary substance, as far as I know) to the sunblock I used to make it more effective, but regular Walgreens did the job, albeit more slowly. Try and see if your own sunblock would work.

Customizing Bakugan just got a whole lot easier, I've got to try this with a core Alto Brontes. Thanks

I have a question. Have you experimented with different types of sunscreen such as the spray type and if so how effective is one type against another?

I did this with my subterra core atmos, and it worked beautifuly, I already custmoized it with black detailing to maintain the core look, yet have it more refined, pics soon

I've only used two different kinds: Walgreens store brand (Which was somewhat effective) and the Melaleuca brand mixed with some Melaleuca oil (Which is QUITE effective). The internets source I got it from used Coppertone to remove ink from a T-shirt, so Coppertone probably works, too.

Use the tube kind. The spray kind doesn't have the same properties as far as I know and doesn't saturate a cloth nearly as well. You really need to buff the paint off.

Hooray!  :D Just be sure to wash off the oil before applying any marker.

Anyway, here's a regular Haos Leefram created from a Bakucore Leefram with this method:

It could also be possible that the acidic properties of aerosol in a spray could have adverse effects on the bakugan if it is at all possible to get a cloth saturated enough with the spray type.

I've also heard that rubbing alcohol works. I might have to try with both!

Rubbing alcohol is not really effective. It removes Gs and the attribute symbol which could be something you don't want. It can also be used to remove ink but I do not hink it removes the base paint on the baku nor the accent paint.

Wrong. I said that in one of my other posts. Rubbing (Isopropyl) alcohol does not remove the paint, just the ink for the symbol, the G's, and the serial number.

EDIT: Wow. Do I have a knack for making stickied topics or what?

Here's another one: an Aquos Ultra Dragonoid (Formerly Core) now stripped. It seems that the sunblock removes the metallic paint and the Baku-core treatment, but leaves the opaque yellow and red alone.
